There’s this moment in pregnancy where getting dressed just feels… hard.

Nothing fits the way it used to.

Your go-to outfits don’t feel like you anymore.

And the idea of being in front of a camera? It can feel like a lot.

So when it comes to booking maternity photos, one of the first thoughts is usually:

“What am I even going to wear?”

And for a lot of mums, that’s the thing that stops them from booking altogether.

But here’s the truth —

you probably already have everything you need.

The real reason this feels hard....

It’s not actually about the clothes.

It’s about being in a body that feels different.

A version of yourself you’re still getting used to.

There’s pressure to look a certain way.

To feel confident.

To somehow feel “ready” before stepping in front of a camera.

But pregnancy doesn’t always feel polished or put-together.

Sometimes it feels uncomfortable, unfamiliar, and a little bit vulnerable.

And that’s completely normal.

This stage isn’t about looking perfect.

It’s about remembering what it felt like to be here.

You don’t need a new wardrobe

You don’t need to go out and buy a whole new outfit just for your photos.

In fact, some of the most beautiful, timeless images come from the simplest things.

A pair of underwear.

A soft, neutral piece of fabric.

An oversized shirt from your partner.

A basic, stretchy dress you already own.

That’s it.

Because when you strip it back, the focus shifts away from what you’re wearing…

and back onto you.

Your body.

Your connection.

This season of life.

I guide all my clients through what to wear (or not wear), so you’re never left guessing or stressing about it.

What actually photographs beautifully

When it comes to maternity photos, less really is more.

What tends to photograph best isn’t complicated outfits — it’s:

Skin tones

There’s something really powerful about simplicity. Bare skin, soft layers, and natural tones create images that feel timeless and emotive.

Textures

Think soft fabrics, linen, cotton, knits — anything with a bit of movement or depth.

Movement

Flowy fabrics, loose shirts, or wraps that catch the light and move naturally.

Natural light

This is where the magic happens. Soft light, especially around sunset or near a window at home, creates that warm, relaxed feeling you see in my work.

It’s not about being styled perfectly —

it’s about creating space for real moments.

Where to have your maternity photos (Gympie & surrounds)

The location you choose can completely change the feel of your photos — and it doesn’t need to be anything complicated.

Some of my favourite options:

In-home sessions

Quiet, relaxed, and personal. Perfect if you want something really natural and comfortable.

The beach (like Rainbow Beach)

Soft light, open space, and a beautiful, calm backdrop — especially at sunrise or sunset.

Bush or long grass locations around Gympie

Warm tones, texture, and that earthy, natural feel.

Golden hour fields

That soft, glowy light just before sunset is always a favourite — simple, open, and timeless.

I help guide you on location based on the kind of feel you’re drawn to, so you don’t have to figure that out alone either.

When to book your maternity session

The best time for maternity photos is usually between 32–36 weeks.

Your belly is nicely visible, but you’re (hopefully) still feeling comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the session.

That said — every pregnancy is different.

If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to guide you based on how you’re feeling.
