When you’re growing a tiny human, time can feel like it’s both standing still and rushing by. One minute you’re seeing those two pink lines, the next your bump is blooming and you’re trying to remember what your ankles used to look like.

As a maternity photographer here in Gympie, one of the most common questions I get is:

“When should I book my maternity photos?”

Let’s walk through the best timing for your shoot—and why it matters more than you might think.

The Sweet Spot: 32 to 36 Weeks

The ideal window for maternity photos is usually between 32 and 36 weeks. By this stage:

• Your bump has that beautiful, round shape

• You’re still able to move around with (relative) ease

• You likely haven’t hit that “get this baby out of me” stage yet

Of course, every pregnancy is different. Some mamas feel amazing at 36 weeks, while others are ready to hibernate at 30. I always say: listen to your body and choose a time when you feel your best.

Why Timing Matters

You deserve to feel relaxed, confident, and connected during your session—not swollen and uncomfortable.

Booking too early might mean your bump hasn’t fully popped yet, while waiting too long can bring fatigue, backaches, and unexpected early arrivals.

Choosing that sweet window helps us capture this season while you’re still glowing and able to enjoy the experience.

Planning Ahead Means Less Stress

When you book early:

• You get your pick of available dates

• We have time to plan outfits, locations, and the vibe you’re dreaming of

• You can focus on nesting, knowing your memories are in safe    hands

I also have a small, curated client wardrobe (think flowy dresses and soft tones) to make the process even easier.

“What If I’ve Left It Too Late?”

Life happens! If you’re 35+ weeks and wondering if it’s too late—it’s not.

I’ve photographed beautiful maternity sessions at 37 weeks, even 39. We’ll adjust the session style and location to make sure you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way.

These Moments Matter

Pregnancy might feel like forever—but it’s gone in the blink of an eye. Your body is doing something incredible, and this chapter deserves to be remembered.

Whether it’s your first baby or your last, I want you to have more than just iPhone snaps. I want you to have art that honours the transformation you’re going through—the softness, the strength, the anticipation.
